Our top tips for keeping your skin glowing this Summer

As the weather warms up and the sun shines brighter, it's essential to take extra care of your skin to keep it healthy and glowing. The summer months can be harsh on your skin, with increased sun exposure, higher temperatures, and humidity levels leading to a range of skincare concerns such as sunburn, dehydration, and breakouts.
To ensure your skin stays radiant and healthy all summer long, it's important to adopt a comprehensive skincare routine that includes both internal and external care. In this article, we'll explore how you can best look after and support your skin in the summer through supplementation, skincare, and at-home care.
Supplementation for Healthy Skin
One of the most effective ways to support your skin from the inside out is through supplementation. Certain vitamins, minerals, and nutrients play a crucial role in maintaining skin health and can help protect it from damage caused by the sun and other environmental factors. Here are some key supplements to consider adding to your daily routine for glowing and healthy summer skin:
Vitamin C:
Known for its antioxidant properties, vitamin C helps protect the skin from free radical damage caused by UV radiation. It also promotes collagen production, which is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Illuminate & Hydrate and Rejuvenate & Firm both contain 100% of your daily recommended amount of Vitamin C and can be taken together- get ready to glow!
Vitamin E:
Another powerful antioxidant, vitamin E helps protect the skin from sun damage and reduces inflammation. It also helps improve skin hydration and elasticity. Vitamin E is one of my favourite nutrients for caring for skin damage caused by skin concerns such as acne and eczema. Both Clear & Calm and Rejuvenate & Firm contain vitamin E.
Omega-3 fatty acids:
Essential for maintaining skin health, omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and keep the skin hydrated. They also support the skin's natural barrier function, protecting it from environmental stressors. I get my Omega 3 through my diet in the form of fatty fish, chai/flax seeds and walnuts.
Skincare for Radiant Skin
In addition to supplementation, a good skincare routine is essential for maintaining glowing and healthy summer skin. Here are some tips for creating a skincare regimen that will keep your skin looking its best all season long.
Cleanse:
Start your skincare routine by cleansing your skin to remove dirt, oil, and impurities. Cleanse each morning and always double cleanse in the evenings to remove makeup, SPF and grime from the day. Opt for a gentle cleanser that won't strip the skin of its natural oils or cause irritation. I love the CeraVe range.
Exfoliate:
Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and promote cell turnover, resulting in smoother and more radiant skin. Choose a gentle exfoliator that's suitable for your skin type and use it 1-2 times a week. I like a gentle acid such as lactic acid. Never use a manual exfoliator like a scrub or brush, they can create micro tears in the skin.
Hydrate:
Proper hydration is key to healthy skin, especially in the summer when temperatures are higher and the air is more humid. Use a lightweight moisturiser that's suitable for your skin type to keep your skin hydrated and supple. I am currently really enjoying the Aveeno range.
Protect:
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine, especially in the summer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and reapply it every 2 hours when spending time outdoors. I opt for factor 50 Beauty of Joseon.
At-Home Care for Summer Skin
In addition to supplementation and skincare, there are several at-home care practices you can incorporate into your routine to support your skin during the summer months.
Stay Hydrated:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Dehydration can lead to dry, dull skin, so aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.
Eat a Balanced Diet:
A healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins provides essential nutrients that support skin health. Include foods high in antioxidants, such as berries, spinach, and nuts, to help protect your skin from damage.
Get Adequate Sleep:
Lack of sleep can negatively impact your skin's appearance, leading to dark circles, fine lines, and dullness. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to allow your skin to repair and regenerate.
Manage Stress:
High stress levels can trigger skin issues such as breakouts, eczema, and psoriasis. Practice stress-relieving techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing to keep your skin calm and balanced.
Taking care of your skin in the summer requires a holistic approach that includes supplementation, skincare, and at-home care practices. By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can create glowing and healthy summer skin that will make you feel confident and radiant all season long!
Remember to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional before making any significant changes to your skincare routine to ensure it's tailored to your individual skin needs.
