Our top 5 tips on drinking enough water so it's easy (& tasty!)

We all know how important it is to drink water for our overall health and wellbeing as well as keeping our skin clear and hydrated.

But how much should we drink to really see a difference in our skin health? And, how can we implement it easily into our busy lifestyles?

Its widely recommended women consume 6-8 cups (around 2-3 litres) a day and men 3-4 litres. However this amount isn't made up of just plain water (Phew), it is your total water intake that can come from foods too.

Tip 1.

Do you find it hard chugging boring water all day and carrying around large water bottles? Me too! I mean you cant fit a 2 litre water bottle in a Birkin. My first tip is eat more foods that contain a lot of water. Fruit and vegetables, like strawberries and cucumbers, have a high water content and can be easily added to lunches and eaten as on the go snacks. Eating soup is another way of keeping our bodies topped up with water which is perfect as we enter Autumn, I will share my fave soup recipes with you all soon that are super easy and cost effective.

Tip 2.

Its not practical for everyone to carry one of those heavy 2/3 litre water bottles around with them. And although they are super encouraging to see how much you're drinking with the markers down the side they weigh a ton and lets be honest they aren't exactly chic. I found buying a smaller bottle I can fit in my bags easily and isn't too heavy to carry made it easier for me to still take water with me on the go without the annoyance of a big bottle.

Tip 3.

If you can, invest in a water distiller or purifier. I know this wont be practical or affordable for everyone but the difference in taste is quite astonishing once all those nasties are removed. I find drinking filtered water much easier to drink and seeing what is in the bottom of my distiller has made me always ensure I make time to have enough fresh water to take out with me.

Tip 4.

If your place of work or study doesn't already have a water cooler, ask for one to be installed. Its a great benefit for the company/education setting to have well hydrated staff/pupils as when the brain is fully hydrated, the exchange of nutrients and toxins will be more efficient — thus ensuring better concentration and mental alertness.

Tip 5.

If plain old water is still not doing it for you and you like the fizz of carbonated drinks, try club soda, seltzer or sparkling water. Or, if you're looking for more flavour in your water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime or making fruit-infused water.

The benefits you will see after 4 weeks of drinking 2-3 litres of water a day will be plumper, fresher looking skin. Lines and wrinkles will appear smoothed and your skin will look more glowing and healthy.
