Foods rich in Vitamin C (your skin will thank you for eating!)

Vitamin C is one of our favourite vitamins for boosting skin health.

We have spoken before about how Vitamin C can help your body boost its natural collagen production- very handy for those of us over the age of 25 After this age our collagen production reduces by around 1% each year! To keep your collagen boosted and skin looking fresh and firm its important to get adequate amounts of vitamin C. Luckily for you, there are lots of yummy foods that can help us do this.

As well as Vitamin C boosting collagen production, it also does so much more. Other skin benefits include; improving skin tone & texture, hydrating the skin, and reducing signs of ageing. It can also brighten your complexion and protect against skin damage caused by sun exposure and free radicals.

On top of this, Vitamin C has wonderful benefits to our overall health. Studies show that consuming more daily Vitamin C can increase your blood antioxidant levels by up to 30%. This helps the body’s natural defences fight inflammation and disease. It may also lower your chance of heart disease, lower your blood pressure and help prevent iron deficiencies.

So what can we eat to get more Vitamin C into our diet?

Here are some of our favourite foods-

Bell peppers

Here are two great recipes with a high Vitamin C content that your skin will love you for eating!

For those of us that work full-time, have children or just don't always have the time (and energy!) to make fresh food each day with high vitamin content, supplements are a great way to ensure you're getting your daily recommended amount of key nutrients.
